Additional Testing Station Services

In addition to carrying out statutory annual tests, roadside and other enforcement work and administering the MOT scheme, the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) provides a range of complementary services at its test stations. These are designed to assist customers keep their vehicles in a safe and roadworthy condition at all times.

The main services available are:

Slot Booking

A slot booking service is available when you cannot guarantee which vehicles you will be sending for testing at specific times. This provides you with a flexible system where a test time can be booked and the slot taken by whichever of your vehicles is available.

Light Commercial Vehicles

Tests on vehicles of 2 tonnes design gross weight and above are offered at all test stations (i.e.: class V, VII and some class IV vehicles). For details of these test requirements & fees see the MOT Testing.

Weekend Testing

This service offers you the flexibility of having your annual test carried out on weekends, allowing you to keep the vehicle in service during the busy working week. Available at participating stations on request, weekend testing attracts a premium fee based on vehicle size. Contact your nearest test station for local information or to book your weekend test.

Brake, Headlamp and Smoke Emission Testing

Checks on brake system performance, headlamp aim and smoke emissions are available at all our test stations utilising the equipment used for statutory testing. These checks give you the opportunity to verify that your vehicles are roadworthy throughout the year, and also provide a useful method of monitoring maintenance standards. Additional Customer Initiatives

Local customer survey feedback is used to generate other local customer initiatives, to help meet the customers’ needs and expectations. These include voluntary checks, advisory work, local training, inspections for specialist groups (e.g. Fire Services, RAC, Local Authorities), appointment of customer liaison officers, technical libraries for customers and various other forms of advice/inspection that will help customers improve the roadworthiness of their vehicles.
