The equipment listed is acceptable for use during statutory tests conducted in accordance with Motor Vehicle (Tests) Regulations 1981, as amended.

This list shows in alphabetical order the brand names of current equipment. Obsolescent models are shown where applicable. These may only be used if their specifications are unchanged and they are in a serviceable condition.

It must be ensured that the equipment used for statutory testing is maintained in good order and calibrated, if required, in accordance with current instructions.

This list should be read in conjunction with the MoT Testing Scheme latest Requirements for Authorisation for Authorised Examiners and Designated Councils for details of test equipment necessary and installation requirements where applicable.

For “Designated Premises” applications, only equipment approved for either “all classes” or from the Class V list is acceptable. The list should be read in conjunction with the Requirements for Authorisation for Designated Premises Tier 1 or Tier 3 (as appropriate) paying particular attention to Annex 6 of these Requirements for Authorisation when selecting brake testing equipment.

Certain equipment listed is suitable for use at sites requiring authorization as Automated Test Lanes as described in the Requirements for Authorisation .

Matters such as value for money, servicing, approved spares availability and compliance with Health and Safety and other relevant Acts, Regulations Byelaws etc. regarding equipment and its installation are the responsibility of Authorised Examiners or Designated Councils.

With each smoke meter there must be a copy of the VOSA) "Certificate of Acceptance" (provided by the equipment manufacturer/supplier) detailing make/model, serial number and the Testing Station details.
A Meter must be approved to Category B to test Diesel engine buses and HGVs including at Designated Premises

A meter approved to category A is acceptable for use in sub Class VL.

Certain machines listed under Exhaust gas Analysers are “combi” machines incorporating diesel smoke meters
