Lorry and van operator licence fees

VOSA is simplifying operator licensing fees and revising the way that enforcement and compliance activities are funded. From 20 April, this activity will be part-funded from HGV test fees for both motor vehicles and trailers, with vehicle fees for goods vehicle operator licensing reducing accordingly. In April 2010, the remaining portion of these costs will be transferred from the licensing fees to the test fees.

For further advice contact the Central Licensing Office in Leeds or the Contact Centre on 0300 123 9000.

The following fees are not affected by these changes:

Application Fees and Administrative Charges

Application fee for a licence (GV79) or for a major (publishable) variation (GV81)

£250

Fee payable for the issue of a licence

£391

Charge for the continuation of an existing licence

£391

Fee payable for the issue of an interim licence or direction

£66

The following fees will be abolished in 2010:

Vehicle Fees from 20 April 2009 to 31 March 2010 (transitional)

At grant, 5-yearly continuation or annual fee stage

£2 per vehicle per month or part month remaining until 31 March 2010

For any vehicles added to a licence, above those already paid for

£2 per vehicle per month or part month remaining until 31 March 2010*

For each vehicle specified on an interim licence or direction

£6

* Or until the 5-yearly continuation or annual fee falls due, if that is sooner

Vehicle fees - changes to the way these are being charged

For all vehicles specified on or after 20 April 2009, fees will no longer be based on the annual or five-yearly cycle. For this transitional year, vehicles fees will be payable by month or part month remaining until 31 March 2010, after which these fees will be abolished. When an application for a new licence is first granted, or before a licence is continued, there will no longer be an option for paying vehicle fees on an annual basis, as the transitional fee will apply in all cases.

All fees are non-refundable
