Review of current pre-test training
As part of the Government’s Motorcycling Strategy
, the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) has been asked to identify options for improving the pre-test, Direct Access Scheme (DAS) and Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) provision for motorcyclists. The results will be used to inform our thinking as to how training could be improved for riders at each stage of their riding career.
The review will look in-depth at the current DAS and pre-test training and
research the findings with a view to:
- Better understanding the delivery and methodology of DAS / pre-test training in the “real world”,
- Make recommendations in order to help improve the standards and quality of motorcycle training generally,
- Taking into account, and acting on suggestions from motorcycle trainers and trainees,
- Linking in with further research on CBT, and
- Making a real contribution in reducing accidents and injuries to motorcyclists
Research is currently being undertaken into the quality, availability and effectiveness of these different forms of training, and we hope to provide the results of this research in 2007.
